GUELYLAND: GUELYLANDSONG #10: LEUCHTTURM, by NENA

My favorite female pop singer ever. The Queen of German Pop Rock, Nena Kerner (Nickname that means "Little Girl" and got because when being a kid of three she was in Spain on vacation with her parents) show her talent and the love of her public in her native Germany.

The video you are about to watch comes from this german DVD from 2003:

From the album "Nena" (1983) this song "Leuchtturm" (Lighthouse), one of my many favorites of her. Here, she is reunited many years after with old band members Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, Jürgen Dehmel and Rolf Brendel (the missing Carlo Karges, died in 2002).

I didn't understand much of the song until she did an English version. I had no idea it was about nuclear holocaust. I just thought she sounded so damned sexy. I actually dated a girl from Germany for a while because of Nena and her 99 Red Balloons.; December 18, 2010 at 5:18 PM
Guely of Sweden said...: I didn't until i understood proper english either. Now, i cannot german at all. But it has many similar words with swedish. And a lot of swedes i know can the language of Berlin.
I have a couple of german notches in my heart as well. And i guess somehow she was the remote inspiration (they could sound like Nena if they wanted). In the 80's i turned to Germany as a source of alternative pop culture. There was Nena, Alphaville the books of Michael Ende, movies like The Tin Drum or the early works of Wolfgang Petersen.; December 18, 2010 at 6:46 PM
