ABOUT GUELYLAND

"One of the smallest , independent kingdoms in the ciberuniverse. Nothing fancy. Population? Just me, myself and my jaguars, my movies and my books (and, at this very moment, YOU). Hided and secret like Skull Island or Opar, the ancients in Guelyland use to read the scrools of a minor god called Voor-Hes.
Most of the treasures of Guelyland are made of paper, plastic and vinyl.Guelyland dreams with expanding in deep more then in surface. The music of Nik Kershaw has been heard here. There are apes, lots of apes in Guelyland. Woody Allen and Bob Hope visit it quite often. Here we love books (the Kingdoms Library is both celebrated and secret) Here we are atheists but very tolerant and think of god a bit too often and much. Guelyland is, the stuff my dreams are made of..."

soy primoroso, bello, lindo, soy gracioso, (¡mucho!)
soy exquisito yo lo sé,
soy tan bonito miren bien,
y soy muy fino,
soy Gordolfo Gelatino.

No me decido a casarme todavía

soy primoroso, bello, lindo, soy gracioso, (¡mucho!)
soy exquisito yo lo sé,
soy tan bonito miren bien
y soy muy fino,
soy Gordolfo Gelatino.
¡Ahí!

Coro:

Es tan hermoso ya lo ven, (¡madre!)
está precioso yo lo sé, (¡venga madre!)
es primoroso, bello, lindo y es gracioso,
es exquisito (¡yo lo sé!)
es tan bonito (¡ecuánime, madre!)
este es mi niño,
mi Gordolfo Gelatino.

Gordolfo:

¿Por qué, Dios mío, me hiciste tan perfecto?
¿Por qué, Señor, no me diste algún defecto?
¡Yo sufro tanto por ser tan diferente!
¡Quiero ser feo, como toda la gente! (¡ay no!)

Soy tan hermoso ya lo ven,
soy tan precioso yo lo sé,
soy primoroso, bello, lindo, soy gracioso, (¡mucho!)
soy exquisito yo lo sé,
soy tan bonito miren bien
y soy muy fino,
soy Gordolfo Gelatino.
¡Ahí!

Coro:

MY ANIMAL LIBRARY

Animals. Why? I don't know. But I has been atracted to them since my memory remembers. Animals in books. Yes, too. My love for animal books is no secret here inside the frontiers of Guelyland.

Is kind of funny because i only speak Spanish, english and swedish. but i got books in german, italian, portuguese and french. I guess i like the pictures i guess i know what they say.

Well, here it is: my animal or as i wish i could call it "My Natural History Library". I only wish the books i left in Perú could be here with me as well. But that's another and kind of expensive story so, what you see is what you get. Not much for some, a lot for others. But in this days i try to keep only what i love to have.

Much of this is made of what we call "juvenile books". Then, some animal encyclopedias and a bit deeper section when it comes to big cats (and jaguars, of course).
So if some of you like animal books feel free to browse the bookshelves and see if we have some title in common. That always gives a funny kick.

I like these books so much that i couldn't help but taking pictures of then. Showing off them to you.
Favorites? Those Vida Animal blue volumes in the right side of the highest row. I am thinking of writting about them for a long time. Hope I'll made it one of these days. For now this is my way to tell you I love animals, I love books and I love books about animals. My books about animals.

ALBUM DE ORO EL PERU MILENARIO

I remember thinking that the finest part of peruvian history was the pre-hispanic. For me, an almost mythical period that started some twenty thousand years ago (I use to think at that age that the rest of our peruvian history was a sad path of lost wars).

I was good and among the best at school went it came to the study and talking about las culturas (as we use to call the different precolumbian nations in peruvian territory) not because i was good student or intelligent but because I was fascinated with the subject . Remember going to the museum of archeology by myself (just a few blocks from grandma's house), to take an almost free ride (the ticket was so cheap or maybe free since i was a kid) enjoying the beauty of the pottery, the gold, and the textil remains of those lost kingdoms. In those days it was not at all crazy find myself daydreaming about digging for pottery with the long gone Julio C. Tello (the father of peruvian archeology).

My favorite was the Chavin culture. One if not the oldest. The one with the bloody jaguar god. At it's prime some three thousand years ago.
Tiahuanaco, Paracas, Nazca, Mochica , Chimú and Inca (the latest and most famous of them all). At school level these were the ones you learn about.

The album that we are checking today is from 1972. So i must have catch some late seventies edition because I didn't studied that part of history until later and i remember using this one a lot at school when it came to drawing. In fact it was a whole new edition. Now i remember the mayan jade mask of the cover of the one i had and not the gold chimu one . Another difference was that the nine stamps forming a big picture were reduce to a double ones only. The one i collected was not only about Peru but about the american continent in general and it was called Nuestra América (Our America) It was not an Editorial Navarrete album as many and the most popular used to be.

ORSON AND HITCH

Let's say that we have to choose two movie books. Two good ones. Two very good ones. Here are my choices:
Both are full of interviews made by two great directors to two even greater ones. They unveil all their secrets and details of the craftmanship used in their long carriers. The questions are almost as good as the answers.
One french to a british. The other an american to a fellow american. Both have more then five hundred juicy pages. Both with good black and white ilustrations.
THIS IS ORSON WELLES (Orson Welles and Peter Bogdanovich, edited by Jonathan Rosenbaum. HarperPerennial, 1992) and HITCHCOCK BY TRUFFAUT (Francois Truffaut with the collaboration of Helen G. Scott. Martin Secker & Warburg, 1968) are the babies I'm talking about.
Here in the Guelyland Library of film* we got a copy of the Orson one from the 1997 Da Capo Press edition that contains among other interesting updates a new 32 pages introduction by Bogdanovich penned in New York in 1997.

And two of the Hitch book, the Paladin Books (1978) an updated edition of 430 pages and the revised Paladin from 1986 of 574 pages. I keep both because they have different introductions, prefaces and pictures .
Great reading and if you know at least some pieces of the body of work of these two giants you will be happy to learn so much directly from the mouth of the masters. As you can see , I can't recomend them enough. A common characteristic of both works is how humble, open and frank Orson and Hitch were. No "king of the world" primadonnas here.
Track them. Get them. Read them. They don't make them as they use to.

FRIENDS FROM THE BUDAPEST ZOO

For some reason, a zoo park is my favorite open place to be. Is that unique feeling of sharing some moments with so many of those fellow beings from around the world: the animals. Is the chance to look at them and, if possible, touch them. My feelings for those brothers and sisters are not less then my feelings for humans. Really. And I have no shame to confess it.If at least they look at me for a couple of seconds i feel happy. Yes, they see just another indistinguable face in mine but i apreciate the gesture. And let me tell you that then I don't care if it's an animal I am fan of or not, because we are after all a big not too often happy family. We, the self named, "rational" brothers should be much more careful. Not for the egoist reason that talks about "our kids future" but because the Earth belongs to all the species that live on it.
They reassure me that conforting proof: we, humans, are not alone on the Earth, or for that matter the Universe.
As I said days ago, I went to Budapest and I couldn't miss the zoo even if it was the only place i visit in that friendly and beautiful city. Thank you Timea for that.
